An 18-year-old Nigerian, Mohammed Aminu Sani, has earned a United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot License, becoming one of the youngest certified commercial pilots from Nigeria.
Sani completed his training at Phoenix East Aviation (PEA) in Daytona Beach, Florida, one of the world’s leading FAA-accredited flight schools. He successfully finished the intensive programme in 10 months without a single checkride failure, a rare feat even among experienced trainees.
In a statement, Sani described the journey as the fulfillment of a lifelong ambition. “Becoming a pilot has always been my childhood dream, and today I am proud to say I’m living that dream. It’s been an incredible experience filled with hard work, discipline, and passion. I hope my story inspires others to chase their dreams with determination,” he said.
Born and raised in Abuja, Sani attended Al-Hidaayah Academy for his secondary education before proceeding to The Regent College Abuja, where he graduated with Distinction in Economics Foundation. His strong academic background, he said, helped him navigate the rigors of aviation studies abroad.
At Phoenix East Aviation, he trained under varying flight conditions, including night operations, instrument-rated flights, and cross-country missions through challenging weather. He logged more than 50 hours on multi-engine aircraft such as the PA-34-200 Seneca and 30 hours of cross-country flight time.
Now holding an FAA Commercial Pilot License (AMEL), Sani aims to join a leading international airline to advance his career and represent Nigeria on the global aviation stage.
His accomplishment marks a significant milestone for young Nigerians pursuing excellence in international fields, underscoring that age remains no barrier to global achievement.
