Asaba, NIGERIA – Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has officially announced his bid to contest the Delta North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okay News reports that Okowa made the declaration at his residence in Asaba on Monday, April 13, 2026, during a consultative visit by a high-powered delegation of political leaders from the district. The delegation, led by the Delta State Deputy Governor, Monday Onyeme, included former and serving lawmakers who unanimously moved a motion urging the former governor to return to the Red Chamber.
In his acceptance speech, Okowa expressed gratitude for the “unity of purpose” shown by the Anioma people. He specifically described his previous support for the emergence of the current senator, Ned Nwoko, as a “mistake” that he now regrets and apologized to the district for.
Okowa, who served as a senator before his two terms as governor, noted that his decision to run under the APC banner aligns with the shifting political dynamics in the state. He assured his supporters that he remains a “seasoned administrator” ready to bring his wealth of experience back to the National Assembly to benefit his constituents.
