2027: Sowore Calls for ‘Revolutionary Change,’ Rejects Loans and Elite Politics

By Adamu Abubakar Isa

ABUJA, Nigeria — African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has called for what he described as a nationwide revolutionary movement to dismantle Nigeria’s current political and economic order ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a lengthy address focused on governance, corruption, workers’ rights, and economic reforms, Sowore accused the country’s ruling elite of plunging millions of Nigerians into poverty while enriching a small political class through public debt, corruption, and failed economic policies.

Okay News reports that the former presidential candidate rejected continued borrowing by the Nigerian government, insisting that loans allegedly obtained by corrupt officials should be subjected to a comprehensive audit.

Sowore said the AAC would prioritize the welfare of informal workers, including commercial motorcycle riders and market traders, while also advocating pensions, health insurance, and protection against extortion and exploitation.

He further argued that labour strikes alone could no longer address Nigeria’s deep-rooted challenges, urging Nigerians to embrace what he termed a broader resistance movement aimed at fundamentally restructuring governance in the country.

The activist-politician promised that an AAC-led government would prosecute corrupt public officials, recover looted public funds, and invest heavily in education, healthcare, transportation, security, and job creation.

Sowore also unveiled what he described as four “people-driven” economic models designed to transform the Nigerian economy. According to him, the proposed “Orange Economy” would focus on youth-driven sectors such as entertainment, technology, sports, and digital innovation, while the “Purple Economy” would target women’s empowerment and economic inclusion.

He added that the “Blue Economy” would harness Nigeria’s waterways and aquatic resources for transportation, energy, and industrial development, while the “Green Economy” would prioritize renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection.

The AAC leader declared an end to what he called Nigeria’s “Black Economy,” which he described as a corrupt system driven by greed, insecurity, environmental destruction, and the concentration of wealth among a few elites.

Sowore also announced plans for a nationwide “State of Resistance” protest on August 5, linking the proposed action to previous demonstrations including the #RevolutionNow movement and the 2024 #EndBadGovernance protests.

He urged Nigerians to unite against oppression, corruption, and economic hardship, expressing confidence that the AAC could emerge victorious in the 2027 elections.
