The High Court sitting in Rivers has declared that 27 lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2023 are still members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP).

The court struck out a suit seeking to declare their seats vacant, ruling that their defection was not proven through party membership registers, cards, or fulfillment of membership requirements.

Justice Okogbule Gbasam’s judgement stated that newspaper publications, radio announcements, or online publications are insufficient proof of defection.
