Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria – Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has directed all political appointees in his administration with ambitions to contest in the upcoming general elections to resign from their positions on or before March 30, 2026.
The directive, conveyed through a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, underscores the governor’s resolve to maintain governance efficiency and prevent distractions within his administration as political activities begin to intensify.
Okay News reports that the governor made this position known while hosting Muslim faithful to an iftar gathering at the Government House in Makurdi. He emphasized that early resignation would enable him promptly appoint replacements, thereby ensuring continuity in governance and avoiding any disruption to ongoing developmental projects.
According to him, the administration remains focused on delivering tangible progress, particularly in infrastructure and public service delivery, and cannot afford delays caused by political transitions.
Governor Alia further reiterated his commitment to fulfilling what he described as a covenant with the people of the state, stressing that his priority remains improving their welfare and transforming Benue into a more attractive and functional environment.
He called on residents and stakeholders to support his vision, insisting that no individual or political interest would be allowed to derail the administration’s developmental agenda.
