No fewer than 40 people are feared trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in the Sabon Lugbe area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following an incident on Saturday.

The building, reportedly under construction, collapsed in the early hours, prompting immediate calls for rescue operations. As of press time, sympathizers and emergency workers are actively working at the scene to rescue those still caught beneath the debris.

Eyewitnesses have described the scene as urgent, calling for more government intervention to assist with ongoing efforts to free those trapped.

“No fewer than 40 persons are currently trapped in a building collapse that occurred in the Sabon Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. People are under this rubble. It is a building under construction. We are calling on the government and relevant agencies to come and rescue those who are trapped here,” one eyewitness said.

The incident has shocked local residents, many of whom are watching rescue operations unfold, hoping for more survivors to be pulled from the wreckage.

This disaster comes just weeks after a similar incident in Abuja’s Kubwa area, where a section of a two-storey residential building collapsed. In that case, four people were rescued, while an unknown number of others were initially feared trapped.

Emergency services and authorities are yet to confirm the exact number of victims and the cause of the collapse in Sabon Lugbe.
