A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of southern Greece on Monday, but there were no immediate reports of damage.

The earthquake hit at a depth of 19 miles, about 43 miles southwest of Kalamata, the US Geological Survey said. The closest settlement was the village of Methoni in southern Greece.

It is popular with tourists and is known for its medieval castles.
