Nigerian-Senate

As Bukola Saraki emerged as the Senate president of the Eight Senate on Tuesday.

Voting is currently underway to determine who will emerge as deputy senate president between Senators Ike Ekweremadu of the PDP and Ali Ndume of the APC.

The election of Saraki was however not without its controversy as only 57 senators were present.

51 senators cutting across both APC and PDP, who were supporters of Ahmed Lawan for the position boycotted the inauguration.

There are currently 108 senators as Sen. Zanna who was also supposed to be sworn in today, died before the inauguration.

The emergence of Saraki is believed to be the fallout of a midnight meeting of PDP lawmakers in which they agreed to back Saraki and Yakubu Dogara for the house of Representatives speakership.

There is no statement yet from the senators who boycotted the session on why they did.
