Abuja, NIGERIA – The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the prolonged detention of students and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, demanding that the Federal Government and security agencies immediately intensify tactical operations to rescue them after 55 days in captivity.
The call for urgent intervention was contained in a fierce press statement issued on Thursday, July 9, 2026, signed by the NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez. Refusing to stay silent while promising academic futures are endangered, the student leadership revealed it has already conducted on-the-scene solidarity visits to the affected Oyo communities, engaged with state executives, and reviewed local hunter and vigilante frameworks to properly complement state intelligence. While NANS acknowledged the ongoing strategy of the military and police forces, Comrade Akinteye emphasized that criminal elements must not be allowed to appear more powerful than the state’s security architecture.
Reminding the administration that protecting lives and infrastructure is the most sacred, non-negotiable constitutional duty of any government, NANS vowed to keep mobilizing public opinion until every single captive is safely returned. The association urged the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Oyo State Government to execute decisive, synchronized rescue operations, declaring that further institutional silence or delay at this critical crossroads would be nothing short of cruelty and systemic failure.
