The All Progressives Congress has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo, was sympathetic to the cause of the party because of his desire for positive change in 2015.
Deputy National Chairman (North) of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Lawal Shuaibu said this in an interview with reporters in Abuja, on Sunday.
He noted that the former President who is still an active member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, was like most Nigerians; desirous of an end to maladministration and impunity.
According to him, while it was true that Obasanjo is not a card carrying member of the APC, his interest in bringing about a change in the way things are done is glaring.

Shuaibu said, “We don’t have any connection with Obasanjo other than Obasanjo sympathising with anybody that could effect change in this country.
“He is not a member of our party mind you, he is still a PDP man but for the fact that he is a former democratic President in this country people listen to him.
“More often than not, some people go to seek for his advice both from PDP, APC and other parties. But he is interested in the type of change we are driving at, so he is to a certain extent sympathetic with the APC.”

He noted that there was nothing wrong with the APC receiving members of the PDP who have come to realise their mistakes.
The APC chieftain said the party has put in place a machinery to ensure strict adherence to its policies and programmes as contained in its manifesto.
He explained that parties which came together to form the APC have all agreed to adhere strictly to the code of conduct as well as ethics enshrined in the founding principles of the new party.
Shuaibu also assured Nigerians that the APC will strictly observe the provisions of its constitution and the party manifesto as well as ensure the supremacy of the party.
Reacting to the over N21 billion raised by PDP to fund President Jonathan’s re-election, Shuaibu said his party was not worried.
He, however, said that of the APC will be transparent and made public in a manner consistent with its avowed commitment to transparency.
