Militant group Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has denied viral reports that it had an agreement with the Nigeria Government to stop bombing oil and gas installations for 30 days to give President Muhammadu Buhari time to come up with a comprehensive plan for the oil-rich region.

Government officials, who wished to remain anonymous, have said “a truce was agreed” with militants.

But the militant group has denied such.

“The NDA High Command never remember having any agreement on ceasefire with the Nigeria Government,” wrote on its Twitter page.

Niger Delta militants say they want a greater share of Nigeria’s oil wealth to go to the impoverished Delta region.

Crude sales make up about 70 percent of national income and the vast majority of that oil comes from the southern swampland.

The latest attacks have pushed production to a 30-year low.
