The parents of the 219 Chibok school girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect since April 14 will today join the #BringBackOurGirls group in its daily sit-out as they continue to lament the absence of. their children in the new year.
The parents will have the opportunity to express their sadness to Nigerians and the outside world over the inability of government to rescue the girls and their anguish in entering the new year without them.
Speaking during the daily sit-out of the group, one of the leaders, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, stated that the event was important as some of the parents will be around to speak on behalf of other parents about their anguish and disappointment at the government’s failure to rescue their girls.
She added that the parents will also set agenda for the year 2015 and what they would like the government and the outside world to do regarding the rescue of their girls.
“Tomorrow (today) is important because it will all be about the voice of the parents of the abducted girls. Some of the parents will be here to speak on behalf of the parents. They will set the agenda for 2015. They will speak on their anguish of staying for over eight months without their girls and disappointment with the government of the nation.
“The Chibok community should be part of the event, too. It is them setting the agenda. They will be here to set it. It is 2015 and we need something radically different. “We want to talk about something new. If the government has failed, is there any individuals from other countries that will do something to help us learn where these girls are and their fate? The Chibok community should be here to help set this agenda,” she said.
The group had on Christmas Day organised a protest march to the Presidential Villa, to remind the leaders of the country that the 219 abducted girls were still in captivity even as the world celebrated Christmas.
