The Kogi State Command of the Department of State Services on Wednesday said it had arrested, at least, 10 suspected kidnappers terrorising the state in the last few weeks.

Four of those arrested in full military uniform were paraded on Wednesday at the Command’s office in Lokoja while six have already been arraigned in court.

The state Director of the command, Mr. Joseph Okpo, who disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja, said the command arrested four out of a six-man gang that had been operating along Abuja-Lokoja highway last week

According to him, the arrested suspects were Haruna Saleh, Kabiru Shuaibu, Mumuni Adamu and Tukur Shuaibu, adding that the people specialised in robbery and kidnapping along major roads.

He said the arrested suspected kidnappers had all confessed to being involved in some operations on Maraba-Jos road, Malufashi on Zaria-Kaduna and Jaji-Zaria road all in full military uniform.

He explained that the suspects were apprehended on their way from the Kaduna axis to link up with some people in Obajana, where they planned to engage in fresh operations.

Okpo, however, said the suspects were already giving useful information on the sources of their uniforms, adding that the command was already collaborating with the state Command of the Nigeria Police to investigate the source of the military uniforms.

He added that upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to have been involved in six operations between the Ramadan period and the day they were arrested.

According to the DSS director, investigation had revealed that most of the kidnappers operating in the state were from outside Kogi, lamenting that the people were taking advantage of the geographical location and the route structure of the state.
