A Federal High Court sitting in Jos, Plateau State has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje, for refusing to show up in court.

This was revealed by Goje’s prosecutor, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in a post on Facebook.

The EFCC said Goje might be arrested on Wednesday (today) if he fails to show up in court to continue with his case of alleged N25 billion fraud.

The post by the EFCC read: “A Federal High Court, sitting in Jos, Plateau State, on October 4, 2016 (Tuesday) issued a bench warrant against former Governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, for refusing to show up in court.

“The warrant is however to take effect by 8am on October 5, 2016, if he fails to show up in court again.”

Goje was accused of awarding several contracts, which did not follow due process when he was the Governor of Gombe State.

Goje, who has since moved on to become a senator and also Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, was accused of awarding, among others, a N1 billion contract for the supply of dictionaries to secondary schools.

The contract was said not to have followed due process.

The contract, channelled through the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board, was said to have failed to follow the procurement process.

Goje was accused of paying 85 per cent of the contract sum upfront to the supplier, Real and Integrated Hospitality Company, as against the prescribed 15 per cent as contained in the UBEB guidelines.
