The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved fresh N700 million for the completion of the ongoing construction of federal secretariats in six states.

Since 2012, the  construction of the federal secretariats in Anambra, Bayelsa, Zamfara, Nassarawa, Gombe and Osun had been stalled.

Babatunde Fashola, minister of power, works and housing, who spoke to the press alongside Lai Mohammed, minister of information and culture, and the Hadi Sirika, state minister for aviation, said the projects were at various levels of completion.

Fashola attributed the change in costs and need for additional allocation to the change in designs.

“The approved cost variation has already been captured in the 2016 budget. With the approval of the variation, we can re-mobilise workers back to site,” he said.

Fashola also said the council approved the completion of the 10MW farm project in Katsina state.

He explained that the development was meant to provide the cost that arose after the original contractor was kidnapped left the country after his rescue, abandoning the project.

“Between then and now, some of the equipment have gone bad,” Fashola added.

Sirika said the council also ordered the relocation of 737 flight training simulator procured on behalf of Nigeria College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, from Lagos to the college.

He explained that although the training equipment was procured for the college, the last administration thought it should be sited in Lagos.

“The last administration thought it will be a commercial venture that will be more viable in Lagos. However, the present council thinks it should be relocated to Zaria, where training activities are currently taking place.”

The minister said the council also approved the memorandum on the industrial port development being built in Badagry.
