A faction of the Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday condemned the sack of 16 civil servants and suspension of 19 others by Governor Ibikunle Amosun, describing it as “inexcusable and reckless.”

It ‎called on elder statesmen and well-meaning citizens of the state to prevail on the state government to immediately reverse the dismissal of the labour leaders.

The state government had on Monday dismissed the state chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Akeem Ambali, the chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Dare Ilekoya, and 14 workers, who are mostly teachers.

‎But the PDP, under the leadership of Engr. Adebayo Dayo, said it was jolted at the decision of the state government.

In a statement‎ signed by its state Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Adeniji, ‎the party ‎expressed regret that the government had chosen a draconian path that is unprecedented in the history of the state.

It said: “The PDP finds the grounds of the sack as inexcusable, baseless and reckless; which may not be unconnected with the on-going workers strike called by the Labour leaders.

“What government has forgotten is that, whereas, the public service rules clearly stipulates terms of engagement for workers, it is not superior to the federal constitution which guarantees the freedom of expression and association among other liberal rights.

“Government needs to be educated that, the union of teachers is not a government body and in celebrating such a day, the teachers are at liberty to invite any freeborn citizen of this state or even beyond to celebrate with them.”
