Johannesburg, South Africa – A four-year-old boy was killed on Wednesday after he was knocked down by a truck on the R553 in Bobhelong, south of Johannesburg.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics arrived on scene the truck was parked on the side of the road.

“The body of the boy was found lying on the side of the road, surrounded by his mother and father”, he said.

Paramedics assessed the child, but he had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

The truck driver was uninjured. Meiring said the boy had run across the road and had not noticed the oncoming truck.
