Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje yesterday launched the fourth batch of his administration’s social intervention programme to enhance welfare and create jobs for the unemployed persons.

Tagged ‘Ganduje Mass Economic Empowerment Programme (G-MEEP)’ the governor explained that the fourth batch of the programme has targeted 1, 560 youths from the 44 local government areas of the state.

Performing the ceremony at Government House in Kano, Ganduje distributed 520 sewing machines, 520 sets of barbing equipment and generators, 520 sets of popcorn making machines, as well as N10, 000 startup capital to each of the beneficiaries.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the donation judiciously in order to enable them become self-reliant, especially considering the the present economic recession in the country. He said a monitoring team would be constituted to monitor the programme.

The governor further assured that more initiatives would be put up under the empowerment programme of his administration to ensure that people in the state engage in meaningful economic ventures.

“You can see that white collar jobs are no longer available so we want to stimulate the entrepreneurship spirit in our youth and women so as to lift them out of poverty and enable them propel small and medium scale endeavors that are crucial component of our economic transformation drive,” the governor said.

In his remarks, the chairman of the state Committee on Empowerment, and Commissioner for Information, Youths and Culture, Comrade Muhammad Garba, said the programme was targeted at making better the lives of the privileged persons.
