Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has sent the name of the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen to the senate for confirmation.

Reports corroborated by sources in the senate say Professor Osinbajo sent a letter to the president of the senate, on Tuesday the February 7.

The challenge confronting the confirmation is whether the senate which is on recess, will be able to reconvene and screen the nominee before the tenure of his acting capacity expires on February 10.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government is doing everything possible to ensure that the appointment of the Chief Justice of Nigeria is done within the provisions of the law.

Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said this during stv’s breakfast programme.

He said though there is pressure on time, he’s sure the senate will do the needful.
