Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission was plotting to cook up allegations against him.

Senator Dino Melaye

Melaye said this on Saturday.

Tweeting on his Twitter handle, Melaye said he had credible information that the commission had already started carrying out forensic investigations on all his bank accounts.

Melaye however said he was ready for the commission’s investigation.

He tweeted: “I have credible information that EFCC is trying to cook up allegations against me.

“Forensic check on all my accounts.

“I ready for una.”

On Thursday, the social media was awash wth news that the EFCC planned to arrest 23 senators for questioning, including Senator Melaye.

Other senators who were said to be on the purported interrogation list of the EFCC included the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki; and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu; Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio; as well as Senator Stella Oduah.

Last week, the Senate rejected the appointment of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, after a two-hour screening.

The screening on Magu went sour when Melaye introduced a report by the Department of State Services, which stated that the anti-graft boss was “unfit for the position”.

The report alleged that the EFCC boss hob-nobs with corrupt individuals and was living in a N40 million house, which was rented for him by an individual under investigation by the commission.

The report went on to say that Magu would constitute a liability to the anti-corruption drive of the present administration.

However, Magu denied the N40 million house allegation, saying that his house was rented by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking after the failed confirmation hearing, Magu said he remained the chairman of the commission, countering the Senate, which said he ceases to function in that capacity following his rejection.
