Femi Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Culture and Tourism, has said that his lawyers would respond appropriately to the lawsuit reportedly filed by Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transport.

The minister, on Monday, reportedly issued a seven-day ultimatum to Fani-Kayode and Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Governor of Ekiti, to offer a public apology and pay him N1.25 billion, for linking him with the $43 million, found in Lagos by officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), the counsel to Amaechi, in separate letters to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, warned that there would be stiff legal actions, should they fail to adhere to his demand over the alleged defamation.

Fani-Kayode, however, in a statement signed by Jude Ndukwe, his special adviser, insisted he had not been served any court papers.

”We have been inundated with calls concerning a threat by Rotimi Amaechi to sue Chief Fani-Kayode for defamation over the 43 million USD issue. We are not losing any sleep over this matter.

”We have not received any court processes or letters from Amaechi but when we do so our lawyers will respond vigorously and appropriately. Thank you,”he said.
