The Lagos state government and the state Police Command on Sunday announced the arrest of factional leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

The arrests were disclosed in a statement by the chairman of Lagos State Task Force, SP Olayinka Egbeyemi through Adebayo Taofeek, the Public Affairs Officer.

This followed the outbreak of violence in the locale after the murder of Rasaq Bello aka Hamburger.

Hamburger, the chairman of Motorcycle Operators Association of Lagos State, was shot dead in Shogunle area of Lagos State during the local council primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the statement, the arrested NURTW and RTEAN factional leaders and supporters who kickstarted the whole trouble are being personally interrogated by the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni.

Egbeyemi warned miscreants and hoodlums to desist from causing chaos around Oshodi and in the state, adding that anyone arrested would be charged to court for prosecution.

He also appealed to the public to report any unlawful activities by notorious miscreants and hoodlums to the appropriate security agencies by dialling Toll-free lines ‘112’ and ‘767’.
