The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has fixed a non-elective national convention for Abuja, to hold on August 12.

The convention is to take care of the challenges posed by the soon expired tenure of the National Caretaker Committee (NCC) which is time constrained and won’t be able to meet up the deadline for the hosting of the National Convention of the party.

The tenure of the party present leader expires on July 16.

The party leaders, after a protracted series of meetings which started on Monday night, also resolved to dissolve the Reconciliation Committee headed by Governor Seriake Dickson and put in place a substantive Reconciliation Committee.

Governor Dickson was made the chairman of the Reconciliation Committee by the administration of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.

A standing Disciplinary committee will also be set up by the party with the mandate given to the NCC to set up the committees.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, assured members of the party that he will deepen the party’s reconciliation efforts, to reunite those who have defected to other political parties.

The meeting is the first of its kind, in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement which put to rest the leadership tussle that threatened the unity of the party in the last 13 months.

The NEC also announced the immediate dissolution of the factional state executive created by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff in Jigawa and Benue state after he got judgement at the Appeal court earlier in the year.
