Former heavyweight boxer, David Bey dies at the age of 60

David Bey, a former top-ranked heavyweight boxer from Philadelphia who lost to Larry Holmes in a championship fight in 1985, was killed on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, in an industrial accident while working on a construction site on the Camden, N.J., waterfront.

The 60 year old Bey was a pile driver with Local Carpenter’s 179 and according to a report by 6ABC, Bey was working at the Camden Towers construction site on Cooper Street when he was hit with a steel sheet.

He had a career mark of 18-11-1 but he had many highlights. On March 15, 1985, he was sporting a 14-0 mark when he challenged Holmes for the International Boxing Federation championship at the Riviera in Las Vegas. Holmes, from Easton, entered the bout 46-0.
