The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Tukur Buratai, has pledged to pay the two months’ allowances owed soldiers involved in Operation Lafiya Dole.

In a statement signed by the Army spokesperson, Sani Usman, the Army chief said the outstanding allowances will be paid this week.

Buratai said the release of funds by the Ministry of Defence would facilitate the payment.

He said the army high command under his leadership would remain ”responsible, responsive and accountable to troops’ operational requirements.”

Buratai commended them for their bravery, discipline and loyalty, and reminded them to always have confidence and trust in the leadership of the army.

An personnel of the Nigerian Army had written a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari to complain about alleged poor treatment of troops fighting Boko Haram due to alleged corruption.

The soldier, also part of the troops fighting Boko Haram, wrote the letter in reaction to army’s dismissal of the complaints of Abdulrauf Aliyu, a private of the Nigerian army.
