Alex Iwobi says he was almost in tears when he scored Nigeria’s lone goal in a World Cup qualifier against Zambia in October.

The Arsenal man, 21, came off the bench to net the goal that sent the three-time African champions to next year’s tournament.

Iwobi, who played for the English team at age-grade level, spoke to Arsenal.com ahead of the game against the Desert Warriors of Algeria.

“It’s so hard to describe, you know what I mean. When I actually scored the moment was crazy, I remember running off celebrating,” the Arsenal forward said.

“I almost cried, I actually almost cried to see how the fans were reacting, to see my mum and dad in the stands, it was just an amazing feeling.”

He also said it was an honour to play for the Eagles, adding that playing at the World Cup would be a dream come true.

Nigeria will play Algeria in the last game of the qualifying race for Russia on Friday.

Thereafter, Gernot Rohr’s men will head to Russia to play Argentina in a friendly on Tuesday.
