The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has declared an indefinite strike action, to commence Monday, November 13, 2017.

Briefing newsmen on Saturday, president of the union, Usman Dutse; and Zone A coordinator, Kabiru Yunusa, said the union resolved to go on strike following federal government’s failure to implement all the agreements it entered with the union since 2016.

The lecturers lamented that despite the long period given to the government to address some of the issues it had raised, the government took no action.

ASUP, among other things, is demanding the implementation of the NEEDS Assessment Report on Polytechnics and the payment of shortfalls and personnel allowances.

The lecturers are also protesting against non-passage of the amended bill on the Polytechnic Act and infractions in the appointment of rectors.
