The fight against hunger in terror-ravaged North East region of Nigeria has received a major boost after the German government donated N260m to the cause.

About 1,200 households are to benefit from the fund, which is to be spent in two local governments – Mubi in Adamawa State and Jere in Borno State.

Speaking on Friday during the distribution of cash to 800 households in Jakana, Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, Country Representative of Adventist Development and Relief Agency, Adeola Omosebi, noted that the gesture would be extended to other areas of Borno and Adamawa states, which were affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

According to him, the present intervention, which started in August this year, would wind up in December, adding that a decision was taken recently to give N5, 010 to each member of the qualified households rather than food items.

Omosebi said, “The intervention was part of the German Humanitarian Assistance through the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs to victims of Boko Haram crisis in Borno and Adamawa states.

“It is a food security intervention – in kind and cash-based transfers. In the first two months of August and September, food was given but later N5,010 was given out to a person for every household.”

He further said that the beneficiaries from the intervention include internally displaced persons, returnees and residents of host communities.
