The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kaduna chapter, on Thursday, called off the indefinite strike it embarked upon on January 8 to protest against the sack of 21,780 public primary school teachers in the state.

Chairman of the union Comrade Audi Amba stated this shortly after an emergency Executive Council meeting in Kaduna.

Amba said the union had directed its members in public primary schools to resume duty immediately, stressing that the union was committed to supporting the state government in its quest towards ensuring qualitative education in the state.

The union, in a press release, said the governor had asked the 21,780 teachers, said to have failed the Primary Four competency test, to reapply for the job.

He noted that as a union committed to the support of the state government in its drive for qualitative education, the union had no choice but to call off its 10-day strike.
