The Nigerian Senate has approved the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) request of N234.51 billion for the conduct the 2019 general elections.

This is against the N242.45 billion requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Upper legislative chambers approved the sum with a reduction of N7.9 billion.

It also approved that the total sum of N189 billion which will the funding for the 2019 general elections be vired from both recurrent and capital components of the special intervention programme.
