The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has denied speculations claiming that the Federal Government is set to increase corps members’ monthly allowance.

The Director-General (DG) of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Suleiman Kazaure said an increment would only be feasible when there is a corresponding review of the proposed N30,000 national minimum wage.

The NYSC DG made this comment while addressing journalists on Monday during his visit to MD Yusuf NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Mani Road, Katsina.

Kazaure assured corps members of a possibility of increment in the future, adding that the initial claims were unfounded because the NYSC scheme is an affiliate of the public service.

His words: “You know that NYSC is part of federal government parastatal, so we are still waiting for this minimum wage. I am sure when it is approved, it will definitely affect NYSC members.”

The NYSC DG also spoke on placing necessary checks with the aid of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure corp members are safe during the 2019 elections.

Meanwhile, Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari, represented by his Special Adviser on Youths Development, Ibrahim Khali Aminu, urged corps members to shun cultism, politics as well as religious intolerance and other forms of anti-social behaviour during their stay in the state.
