The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Wednesday issued an order to arrest suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Okay Nigeria recalls that Onnoghen has failed to appear for his trial despite the being summoned severally.

However, the tribunal order his arrest for failure of Onnoghen to appear before it since the notice of arraignment served.

The code of conduct tribunal is sitting for the 5th time without being able to take the plea of the suspended CJN.

The false asset declaration trial can only start after arraignment and his plea is taken.

During the trial on Wednesday, Aliyu Umar, the prosecution counsel called on the attention of the tribunal to the persistent absence of the defendant in court.

He then asked the tribunal to invoke its power to issue a warrant for the arrest of Justice Onnoghen.

But, Adegboyega Awomolo, the Defence counsel reminded the tribunal of pending appeals and other applications before the tribunal which has not been heard.

Awomolo also urged the tribunal to exercise restraint since the national judicial council, NJC is yet to conclude its intervention.

Danladi Umar was not satisfied by Awomolo’s pleading and issued the warrant for Onnoghen’s arrest.

He directed the inspector general of police, director general of department state service to ensure that Justice Onnoghen was brought to court on Friday, 15th February.
