The Coalition 4 Change (C4C) on Monday withdrew its suit filed at the tribunal challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari in the February 23 presidential election.

Okay.ng had reported that the C4C and its candidate, Geff Ojinika, in the petition number CA/PEPC/003/2019, prayed for the cancellation of the election that produced Buhari as the winner on the grounds of gross irregularities and violation of Electoral Act 2010, as amended.

Justice Mohammed Garba granted the oral application filed by Mr. Obed Agu, counsel for the petitioners that requested the withdrawal of the case.

Garba, who replaced the former Presiding Justice of the tribunal, Zainab Bulkachuwa, held that the petition remained withdrawn in the absence of any objections.

Reacting to the withdrawal, Garba Shehu, Buhari’s spokesman on behalf of the Presidency, commended the Coalition for Change (C4C) following the withdrawal of its case.

“This is a sign of true patriotism. By accepting defeat with grace, the C4C has chosen to prioritize the stability of our country and the voice of the people,” he said in a statement.

“Victory and defeat are part of elections. For some in the opposition, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC is good, when they win. Where they lose, INEC is unreliable.

“The challenges facing our nation are huge and we need all hands on deck.

“The people of Nigeria have chosen President Buhari to lead them, and all stakeholders should deploy their energy towards supporting his efforts.”
