Iran in talks with Nigeria over El-Zakzaky’s case

The Iran government has revealed that its in talks with the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over the case of the leader of Shi’ite leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Abbas Mousavi, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, disclosed this while speaking to reporters in Tehran, the capital of the country.

He noted that the Iranian government through diplomatic contacts was in line with the Nigerian government help improve El-Zakzaky health.

Mousavi said that President Buhari and Iranian Vice President for Economic Affairs, Mohammad Nahavandian, recently met in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on a range of issues, including El- Zakzaky’s case.

According to him, the meeting took place on the sidelines of the 5th Summit of Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Equatorial Guinea.

He said, “We hope that the consultations and arrangements that are being made with Nigerian government will expedite the settlement of this El-Zakzaky issue.”

A court had last week ordered the Department of State Services (DSS) to transfer El-Zakzaky and his wife from its facility to Kaduna Central Prison.

The Shi’ite leader has been in detention since December 2015, when his followers and Nigerian Army clashed Zaria, Kaduna State.
