Okay.ng gathered that Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa, Director-General of the NCDC, announced this at the ministerial news conference on Tuesday in Abuja.
He added that the nation had so far this year documented seven deaths from monkeypox.
The sporadic occurrence of monkeypox, a rare viral zoonotic infectious disease (an infection spread from animals to humans), is most common in isolated communities in Central and West Africa that are close to tropical rainforests.
In Nigeria, there are 1,180 suspected cases, 481 confirmed cases, and seven fatalities from monkeypox this year, according to Adetifa.
Worldwide, 107 member states have reported more than 71,237 laboratory-confirmed cases to WHO since January 1, 2022, including 26 fatalities.
“Our reaction is still ongoing, including the creation of materials for communicating monkeypox danger, giving states assistance with case identification, and SORMAS reporting.
“We continue to train IPC focal points and create IPC guidelines with reference to infection prevention and control.
“Laboratory activities in the areas of sample collecting and genetic sequencing have continued and are being intensified.”
As of Week 39, there had been 933 confirmed cases of Lassa fever from 25 states and 102 local government units, resulting in 173 fatalities.
“Of all confirmed cases, 71% are from Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi States,” he declared.
