According to the police, the anti-riot gear issued includes stun guns, ballistic helmets, long- and short-range tear gas for controlling civil unrest, and bulletproof jackets with armored plates.

Prior to the 2023 general elections, Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), has directed that police officers immediately receive their uniforms, kits, accoutrements, and anti-riot equipment.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a chief superintendent of police (CSP), the force’s PR representative, stated this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

While the gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections will take place on March 11, the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on February 25.

According to Mr. Adejobi, the anti-riot equipment consists of stun guns, long and short-range tear gas for controlling civil unrest, ballistic helmets, bulletproof jackets with armored plates, and other items.

He explained that the goal was to make sure the police were qualified to provide professional policing services prior to, during, and following the general elections in 2023.

He proceeded by saying that the supplies had just been acquired to support the welfare of police officers as election preparations continued.

He claims that the goal is to maximize professionalism and cordial interactions when managing crowds and quelling any discontent.

The police should implement as many contemporary approaches for reducing crime and criminality as possible, according to Mr. Adejobi.

The police spokesperson reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to improving the operational capacity of staff at all levels in order to entirely eradicate crime and criminality.

He gave the assurance that the Nigeria Police would offer first-rate security for the general elections in 2023.

According to Mr. Adejobi, the IGP urged the Force’s officers and members to uphold civility, discipline, and respect for others’ basic rights while performing their jobs.
