The Rivers State Government has dismissed as false and malicious a social media post claiming that the son of Governor Nyesom Wike was shot dead in the United States over his father’s alleged role in the recent elections in the state.

The state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Chris Finebone, issued a statement on Wednesday to refute the post, which showed a picture of Wike’s son in a graduation ceremony in the UK last year, accompanied by his parents and sister.

Finebone described the post as “a big lie by evil people” who were out to tarnish the image of the governor and cause panic among his supporters.

He said Wike does not have any son or child in the US, and that all his children were safe and well wherever they were.

He urged members of the public to disregard and ignore the post, which he said was part of an “insidious quest” by wicked people to blackmail and malign the governor. He said there was no iota of truth in the “cheap blackmail”.
