Delta State has a new Governor-elect, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori, winner of the Governorship election held on March 18th.

The INEC State Returning Officer, Prof Georgewill Owunari, Vice Chancellor Rivers State University, declared the results at the INEC Collation Center in Asaba.

According to Owunari, Oborevwori polled a total of 360,234 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who scored 240,229 votes. The Labour Party candidate, Kennedy Pela, came in third with 48,047 votes.

Oborevwori’s victory was made possible by the fact that he won in 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, leaving the APC with only four local government areas.

The Governor-elect is expected to be sworn in on May 29th, 2023, and will take over from the incumbent Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who is also a member of the PDP.
