In a surprising turn of events, Murtala Ajaka, the deputy national spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has announced his resignation from the party.

In a letter dated May 17, addressed to Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairperson of the APC, Ajaka formally relinquished his membership and stepped down from his position as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

Ajaka’s letter stated, “I write to inform your good self and the National Working Committee of our great Party, the All Progressives Congress, of my decision to resign my office as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary and also as a member of the NWC.”

He further explained that he had already communicated his resignation from the party to the APC Chairman of Ajaka Ward 1 in Igalamela/Odolu LGA of Kogi State.

In the letter, Ajaka praised the leadership of the APC and expressed his admiration for the party’s achievements.

He commended the “exemplary brinkmanship, astuteness, sagacity, and political dexterity” of the current National Working Committee, led by the national chairperson, Abdullahi Adamu.

Ajaka particularly highlighted the party’s success in the recent general elections, culminating in the victory of the APC’s presidential candidate.

Ajaka’s resignation comes after his unsuccessful bid to secure the APC governorship ticket in Kogi.

The party’s nomination was instead awarded to Ahmed Ododo, the former local government auditor-general in the state.

However, some of the governorship aspirants, including Smart Adeyemi, have alleged that the primary election was marred by irregularities favouring Ododo. They have called for the cancellation of the results.

It is reported that Ajaka is now in the process of finalizing plans to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Sources suggest that he aims to be adopted as the party’s standard-bearer for the upcoming governorship election scheduled for November 11.
