President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially inaugurated the National Economic Council (NEC), with Vice President Kashim Shettima assuming the leadership role.

The ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa on Thursday morning and was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, and all 36 Governors of the Federation.

During the inauguration, President Tinubu emphasized the urgent need for collaboration among governors and the utilization of local government resources to address the nation’s significant challenges in infrastructure development.

He acknowledged that both he and the governors had campaigned and strived for reforms, urging them to make the most of the opportunity presented by the NEC.

“You and I asked for it. We campaigned for it. We even danced for it. So, we have no reason to complain. Members of this country are behind us. They want reforms, and they want it quickly. You here are stakeholders… Collaboration is not a crime. Please, let us do so,” President Tinubu declared.

The NEC holds a pivotal position in Nigeria’s economic decision-making, serving as a forum for dialogue and policy coordination between the federal government and state governments.
