The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has postponed its decision on the bail application of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), until July 13, 2023.

The presiding Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, made this announcement after hearing the arguments presented by all parties involved in the case.

Emefiele, through his legal representative, has challenged his detention by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the alleged denial of access to his family and legal counsel.

His counsel vehemently argued for his release on bail, emphasizing his client’s constitutional rights.

However, the legal representatives of both the Department of State Services and the office of the Attorney General of the Federation opposed the bail application.

They contended that Emefiele poses a flight risk, raising concerns about potential obstruction of justice if he were to be released pending trial.

Additionally, the respondents informed the court that the suspended CBN Governor is currently detained based on the order issued by the Chief Magistrate’s Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
