The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, has called on the corps members of the 2023 Batch ‘B’ Stream One, who are currently undergoing their orientation exercise, to embrace skill acquisition and development through the Scheme’s program.

Speaking at the Katsina and Borno States NYSC Permanent Orientation Camps, General Ahmed emphasized the importance of vocational skills in combating unemployment.

During his address, the Director General highlighted the significance of the in-camp training, designed to expose corps members to entrepreneurship skills over a three-week period.

He further emphasized that the post-camp training would enable them to fully develop and refine their acquired skills, leading to self-employment opportunities.

In a statement released by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Eddy Megwa, General Ahmed stressed that skill acquisition was the most effective remedy for unemployment.

He encouraged corps members to utilize the NYSC’s Skill Acquisition and Development program to unlock their potential and attain financial independence.

The Director General also reminded corps members of the importance of adhering to the NYSC’s dress code.

He warned that any violation of the dress code would result in sanctions and restrict access to NYSC offices. “The era of wrong dressing is gone,” General Ahmed asserted, “You must always dress well; don’t dress anyhow because every wrong dress attracts sanctions, and if you are wrongly dressed, you would not be allowed to enter our offices.”

Furthermore, General Ahmed urged corps members to actively participate in all camp activities and utilize the four cardinal programs of the NYSC: Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service, and Winding-Up/Passing-Out.

He encouraged them to forge friendships and use these opportunities to positively impact their host communities.

During the briefing with the Director General, the NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, Mrs. Aisha Muhammad, informed him that the 1,129 registered corps members, comprising 551 males and 578 females, had successfully adjusted to their new environment.

Likewise, the State Coordinator for Borno State, Mr. Mohammed Jiya, reported that the orientation camp activities were progressing smoothly and highlighted the excellent teamwork among camp officials.
