Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State, has emphasized the critical importance of his political base, stating that without it, he would become politically irrelevant.

During a meeting with South-South leaders in his office on Tuesday in Abuja, Wike highlighted the significance of maintaining one’s political structure.

He asserted that the loss of a political base would render any politician inconsequential in the political landscape.

“All of us want to be politically relevant; all of us want to maintain our political structure,” Wike declared.

“Is it not your political structure? Will you allow anybody to just cut you out immediately? Everybody has a base. If you take my base, am I not politically irrelevant?”

Wike remained resolute in the face of challenges, expressing his indifference towards any form of calumny directed at him.

He affirmed that no amount of false accusations or attacks could disturb his peace of mind.

The reported strain in the relationship between Wike and the Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has stirred recent political discourse.

This discord allegedly led to certain lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiating moves to impeach Fubara, with these lawmakers purportedly being aligned with Wike.
