Senate President Godswill Akpabio addressed concerns regarding his health after reports emerged suggesting he collapsed during the colloquium held in celebration of his 61st birthday.

Speaking to journalists at his office in the Senate Complex, Abuja, Mr. Akpabio clarified his condition, acknowledging feeling weak and developing malaria post-event.

While refraining from confirming the collapse, Mr. Akpabio attributed his condition to exhaustion and confirmed he received medical confirmation of having malaria due to stress.

Addressing the situation, he emphasized the human aspect, stating, “What eventually happened after the event was a show of humanity. I went home and I called my doctors and I was assured that I have malaria, mingled with stress, which could also be described in another way as exhaustion.”

Asserting the continuity of legislative duties, Mr. Akpabio assured Nigerians of the National Assembly’s uninterrupted functioning. He mentioned the upcoming resumption date and emphasized the ongoing budget defense, aiming to meet the target of passing the budget before the year ends.

Additionally, Mr. Akpabio’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, had previously dismissed reports of the Senate President collapsing, further reinforcing Mr. Akpabio’s explanation regarding his health status post-colloquium.
