The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken decisive action by dismissing two special police constables, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman, after a video surfaced of them demanding money from a Dutch tourist in Oyo state.

The incident, which occurred on December 8, led to their arrest by the Oyo police command.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebola Hamzat, announced the dismissal of the officers on Thursday, stating that such actions are not in line with the values of the police force.

The swift dismissal serves as a deterrent to other officers who might consider engaging in similar acts.

“I affirm the recommended punishment of dismissal for the two police special constabularies, Kareem Fatai and Jimoh Abdul-Lukman,” stated Commissioner Hamzat.

“They will cease to be members of the special constabulary with immediate effect. It is hoped that this will serve as a deterrent to others who might want to perform a similar act.”

In the less than two-minute viral video, the officers stopped the female Dutch rider along the Iseyin-Ogbomosho road in Oyo, inquiring about her destination.

The foreign rider, who indicated she was from the Netherlands and heading to Abuja, was then asked to offer money or valuables by the officers.

The video, which captured the officers demanding money in Pidgin English, highlighted the inappropriate behavior, prompting public outcry.

The Dutch rider, unfamiliar with the language, responded with confusion, further emphasizing the misconduct of the officers.
