Supreme Court Upholds Bala Mohammed’s Victory as Bauchi State Governor

The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Bala Mohammed, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the duly elected governor of Bauchi State.

In a unanimous decision, the apex court upheld the earlier ruling of the Court of Appeal and dismissed the appeal filed by Sadique Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a lack of merit.

The Court of Appeal had previously, in November, affirmed the victory of Governor Bala Mohammed in the governorship election held on March 18.

This decision came after the tribunal had earlier upheld Mohammed’s victory.

The recent Supreme Court judgment reinforces the findings of the lower courts, underscoring the legitimacy of Bala Mohammed’s election.

The appellate court, in its November ruling, awarded no costs, stating that each party involved in the case should bear its costs.

Presiding over the case, Justice Chidi Nwaoma Uwa delivered the judgment in the order of the appellant’s plea before the appeal court.

The appellant, Sadique Abubakar, had pleaded for the nullification of the election, citing improper filling of forms and booklets used in the electoral process. The court, however, ruled that the appellant failed to substantiate this allegation with the necessary evidence.
