The Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has revealed that Persons Living With Disability (PLWD) who intend to take the 2024/2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) can register at no cost.

The announcement was made by the JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, during the rollout of the registration process across the country.

In a bid to provide support to PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents for all categories of disabled candidates participating in the 2024 UTME/DE.

“To support the PLWD, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of Persons Living with Disabilities in the advertisement for the 2024 UTME/DE,” stated Oloyede.

The registrar also highlighted measures implemented to ensure a seamless registration process for all candidates. Notably, audio books will be provided for blind candidates, representing a digital adaptation of traditional reading materials. These audio books will be available in popular formats such as MP3, WMV, and WMA, ensuring compatibility with devices capable of streaming audio records.

The introduction of audiobooks is a significant step toward enhancing accessibility for visually impaired candidates and aligns with recommendations made at the first National Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education in Nigeria.

In addition to blind candidates, other groups eligible for free registration include individuals with Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

“The following categories of candidates will now be listed under the disability group: Down syndrome, Autism, Dyslexia disorder, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD),” Oloyede explained.
