President Bola Tinubu has affirmed his stance against establishing a price control board or approving the importation of food as measures to alleviate hardship in the country.

Speaking after a crucial meeting with governors of the 36 states and the minister of the federal capital territory (FCT) in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized his administration’s commitment to devising home-grown solutions to address food security challenges.

The president underscored the importance of implementing initiatives aimed at bolstering local food production while curbing rent-seeking activities associated with food importation.

Tinubu expressed his dedication to supporting farmers and fostering a conducive environment for increased agricultural output.

During the meeting, which included key stakeholders such as the Vice-President, Kashim Shettima, the National Security Adviser, and heads of security agencies, Tinubu reiterated his commitment to combating food hoarding.

He instructed security agencies to inspect warehouses where food items are being stockpiled, emphasizing the need to ensure food availability for all Nigerians.

“I will not establish a price control board, nor will I approve the importation of food,” Tinubu affirmed.

“Importation only enables rent seekers to perpetrate fraud and mismanagement at our collective expense.

“Instead, we will support our farmers with schemes that encourage them to cultivate more food for the nation.

“We must also rapidly but thoughtfully implement our livestock development and management plans, including dairy farming and others.”
