Zamfara Bakers Halt Bread Production Amid Motorcycle Ban Controversy

The Zamfara State chapter of the Master Bakers Association (MBA) has instructed its members to suspend the production of bread until a resolution is reached with the State Government regarding the ban on motorcycles transporting loaves of bread.

The Association dismissed allegations that motorcycle riders delivering bread were supplying it to bandits in the forests, challenging the justification provided by the State Government for the ban.

The State Government recently implemented a ban on motorcycles carrying loaves of bread, citing concerns that the bread was being delivered to bandits operating within the State. Additionally, the government prohibited the sale of petroleum in cans, asserting that the availability of bread and cans of fuel was facilitating terrorist activities in the region.

Speaking to reporters in Gusau, the State Financial Secretary of the Association, Mallam Habibu, affirmed that the union would cease bread production until a resolution was achieved through discussions with the State Government.

“We have been engaged in a series of meetings with the State Government to address the issue. I am confident that a resolution will be reached soon,” Habibu stated.
