The Federal Government of Nigeria has taken a significant step towards enhancing efficiency and reducing the cost of governance with the inauguration of a 10-member committee tasked with implementing the recommendations of the Oronsaye report.

President Bola Tinubu directed the full implementation of the Oronsaye report on February 26, with the aim of optimizing the federal service and cutting down on unnecessary expenditures. I

n line with this directive, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), inaugurated the committee on behalf of the president.

The committee, which comprises key stakeholders from various sectors, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, and Head of Civil Service of the Federation, is charged with the responsibility of ensuring the effective implementation of the White Papers on the Oronsaye report.

Speaking during the inauguration, Akume emphasized the importance of the committee’s work in reducing the cost of governance and streamlining efficiency across the governance value chain. He outlined the general guidelines for the committee’s operations, which include reviewing current mandates, identifying redundancies, defining strategic objectives, engaging stakeholders, drafting revised mandates, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, obtaining necessary approvals, communicating changes effectively, and monitoring implementation.

The committee has been given a 12-week deadline to submit its comprehensive report.
